Glenn was busy throughout the mission controlling the spacecraft’s attitude manually, communicating with ground stations, monitoring and managing capsule systems, controlling the spacecraft in pitch, roll and yaw axes, studying the heavens, the earth and global weather patterns, eating and drinking from experimental containers, evaluating capsule performance, and analyzing his own reactions to space flight.
Anxious millions followed the astronaut’s dangerous flight by radio reports from space as the capsule rushed Glenn alternately through daylight and darkness at a speed of about five miles a second on a general west-east course high over the tracking networks that plotted his path second by second and checked his every heartbeat.
The flawless flight that pitted man and science against gravity and the chill vacuum of space climaxed the U.S. space program to date, openly—win or lose—before all peoples; wrote a brilliant new chapter in American technical achievement, drew immediate praise from President Kennedy, who congratulated Glenn by radiophone aboard the Noa.
All Systems Function
Riding high atop 125 tons of explosive propellant, Glenn was launched into a sunny sky by a special Atlas ICBM booster that rammed the froth-coated 93-ft vehicle upward into the vault of space on a bellowing shaft of fire that spat out 360,000 lb. of thrust.
Except for the malfunctioning automatic control system, all systems apparently functioned throughout the long-delayed flight from the instant the exhaust flared on the launch pad until the 63-ft. main recovery parachute snapped out of the capsule and blossomed 10,000 ft. above the Atlantic to catch Friendship 7’s long fall out of orbit.
The gnawing fear that Glenn might, through some malfunction, be locked in orbit for a week to 10 days to die in space within 26 hours vanished with the operation of the many complex systems aboard the black, topshaped spacecraft.
Contact by Radio
All crucial phases of the mission were accomplished perfectly—launch, staging, escape tower ejection, separation from the booster, injection into orbit, capsule turnaround, establishment of re-entry angle, retro-rocket fire to slow the spacecraft out of orbit, parachute deployment and finally, recovery at sea.
Meanwhile, the capsule’s life-support system provided Glenn with oxygen, pressurization, and coolant aloft; radio-voice communication held contact with him for much of the mission. And telemetry returned masses of data on more than 80 vital factors for fast analysis.
Five minutes after the launch jammed the tightly-strapped marine down on his contoured couch with a peak 8 Gs in shuddering, roaring acceleration, the rocket sustainer engine cut off in space and Friendship 7 was injected into silent orbit 100 miles above Bermuda to be trailed by the bulky, empty package of its tagalong booster.
Blunt-End Forward
Thereafter the 3,000-lb. Spacecraft—flying blunt-end forward and tilted up, with Glenn facing backward and down—hurtled the astronaut southeastward:
Across the Atlantic and Central Africa, into approaching night over the Indian Ocean, into Wednesday across Australia, through apogee (162.3-mile-high point, then northeast over the long reach of the Pacific, back into Tuesday, out of the night and back into daylight, across the lower part of Baja California, over Mexico and the southeastern United States, into perigee (99.8-mile-low point), and the beginning of a second orbit little more than 94 minutes after liftoff.
It was on the third orbit, after retro-rockets had fired over the Pacific to initiate re-entry under [the] watch of the Point Arguello tracking station, that Glenn’s capsule shot high across San Diego into its long coast-to-coast fall, but Friendship 7 was invisible because of sun glare.
Then came the dramatic finale when the capsule slammed down from space to be caught up by its parachute and lowered gently into the sea at about 30 feet a second.
Space Shuttle Launch
Space shuttle orbiters are strapped to a large fuel tank, which supplies the orbiter’s main engines, and two solid rocket boosters that provide extra lift for a vertical launch. This launch of the space shuttle Discovery in September 1988 marked the first space shuttle flight since the space shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986.
Sputnik 1: The Russian Sputnik 1, launched on October 4, 1957, was the first artificial satellite put into orbit around the earth. This historic launch began an era of intensive space programmers by both the Soviet Union and the United States, a surge of interest sometimes called the “space race”. In the next three decades, hundreds of probes, satellites, and other missions were to follow Sputnik on the quest to explore both the wonders and the practical potential of space.
NASA's Space Shuttle: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known as NASA, was created in 1958. NASA conducts aerospace research and space exploration, including the shuttle programmed. Here, the space shuttle Discovery is poised for its launch in September 1988. The success of Discovery’s mission encouraged the United States to continue the space shuttle programmed energetically, despite the destruction of Challenger.
Communications Satellite, any Earth-orbiting spacecraft that provides communication over long distances by reflecting or relaying radio-frequency signals.
History and Development
The idea of artificial satellites circling the Earth and relaying communications signals dates from October 1945, when the British technology writer (and science-fiction author) Arthur C. Clarke published a magazine article under the title “Extra-Terrestrial Relays” proposing the revolutionary idea. It was another 12 years before the world’s first satellite was launched, by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1957. Named Sputnik, the radio transmitter it carried could qualify it as a communications satellite, although the soul purpose of this transmitter was to act as a beacon.
Dedicated communications satellites, on the other hand, act as relay stations spanning distances that could not be covered by terrestrial transmitters. Over the years their function has expanded, and whereas the first satellites acted merely as relay stations for point-to-point messages, many modern satellites carry point-to-multipoint transmissions for applications as varied as direct-to-home broadcasting, data networking between different branches of large enterprises, and wide-area mobile phone systems (see also Cellular Radio).
Some of the first communications satellites had no radio equipment aboard and were designed to operate in a passive mode. Instead of actively transmitting radio signals, they served merely to reflect signals that were beamed up to them by transmitting stations on the ground. Signals were reflected in all directions, so they could be picked up by receiving stations around the world, although the utility of such systems was severely limited by the need for powerful transmitters and large ground antennas at the Earth stations.
This early period of development coincided with the Cold War, and the majority of early satellite communication experiments were strategic in nature. In one of these experiments, in 1958, the United States launched Score, occasioning the first transmission of a human voice from space. Score was equipped with a tape recorder that stored messages received while passing over a transmitting ground station. These messages were retransmitted when the satellite passed over a receiving station.
This did not, however, provide communication in “real time”; telephone and broadcasting organizations (as well as the military) were looking towards the development of a satellite or “bird” that carried equipment for receiving and retransmitting messages on demand. Such developments form the basis of satellite communications today. Telstar 1, launched on behalf of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company in 1962, provided direct television transmission between the United States, Europe, and Japan, and could also relay several hundred telephone calls simultaneously. Launched into an elliptical orbit inclined 45° to the equatorial plane, Telstar could only relay signals between two ground stations for a short period (45 minutes at most) during each revolution, when both stations were in its line of sight.
Hundreds of active communications satellites are now in orbit, put there by many different countries. They receive signals from one ground station, amplify them, and then retransmit them at a different frequency to another station. One frequency band used, 500 MHz wide, is divided into repeater channels of various bandwidths (located at 6 GHz for upward, or “uplink”, transmission and 4 GHz for downward, or “downlink”, transmission). A band at 14 GHz (uplink) and 11 or 12 GHz (downlink) is also much in use, mostly with fixed (non-mobile) ground stations. An 80 MHz-wide band at about 1.5 GHz (uplink and downlink) is used with small, mobile ground stations (ships, land vehicles, and aircraft). Solar energy cells mounted on large panels attached to the satellite provide power for reception and transmission.
Geostationary (or Geosynchronous) Orbit
A satellite in a geosynchronous orbit follows a circular orbit over the equator at an altitude of 35,800 km (22,300 mi), completing one orbit every 24 hours—the time that it takes the Earth to rotate once. Moving in the same direction as the Earth’s rotation, the satellite remains in a fixed position over a point on the equator, thereby providing uninterrupted contact between ground stations in its line of sight. The first communications satellite to be placed in this type of orbit was Syncom 2, launched by NASA in 1963. Most of those that followed were also placed in geosynchronous orbit.
Commercial Communications Satellites
Deployment and operation of communications satellites on a commercial basis began with the founding of the Communications Satellite Corporation (COMSAT) in 1963. When the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (Intelsat) was formed in 1964, COMSAT became the US member. Based in Washington, D.C., Intelsat is owned by more than 120 nations. Intelsat 1, known as Early Bird, launched in 1965, provided either 2,400 voice circuits or one two-way television channel between the United States and Europe. During the 1960s and 1970s, message capacity and transmission power of the Intelsat 2, 3, and 4 generations were progressively increased by beaming the satellite power only to the Earth and segmenting the broadcast spectrum into transponder units of a certain bandwidth.
With the launch of the Intelsat 3 satellites in 1969, full global coverage was achieved for the first time, covering each of the three main oceans. With the Intelsat 5 series (1980), introduction of multiple-beam operation resulted in additional increases in capacity. A satellite’s power could now be concentrated on small regions of the Earth, making possible smaller-aperture (coverage area), lower-cost ground stations. An Intelsat 5 satellite can typically carry 12,000 voice circuits. The Intelsat 6 satellites, which entered service in 1989, can carry 24,000 circuits and feature dynamic on-board switching of telephone capacity among six beams, using a technique called SS-TDMA (satellite-switched time division multiple access).
By the early 1990s, Intelsat had 15 satellites in orbit, providing the world’s most extensive telecommunications system. Other systems also provide international service in competition with Intelsat. In 1997 all regulatory restraints to such competition were lifted. The growth of international systems has been paralleled by domestic and regional systems, such as Europe’s Eutalsat and Telecom, and America’s Telstar, Galaxy, and Spacenet programmes.
Services
Commercial satellites provide a wide range of communications services. Television programmes are relayed internationally, giving rise to the phenomenon known as the “global village”. Satellites also relay programmes to cable television systems as well as to homes equipped with dish antennas (see Satellite Television). In addition, very small aperture terminals (VSATs) relay digital data for a multitude of business services. Intelsat satellites now carry over 100,000 telephone circuits, with growing use of digital transmission. Digital source-coding methods have resulted in a ten-fold reduction in the transmission rate needed to carry a voice channel, thus enhancing the capacity of existing facilities and reducing the size of ground stations that provide telephone service.
The International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT), founded in 1979, is a mobile telecommunications network providing digital data links, telephone, and facsimile transmission (fax) service between ships, offshore facilities, and shore-based stations throughout the world. It is also now extending satellite links for voice and fax transmission to aircraft on international routes.
Recent Technical Advances
Communications satellite systems have entered a period of transition from the use of point-to-point, high-capacity trunk communications between large, costly ground terminals towards that of multipoint-to-multipoint communications between small, low-cost stations. The development of multiple access methods has both hastened and facilitated this transition. With TDMA, each ground station is assigned a time slot on the same channel for use in transmitting its communications; all other stations monitor these slots and select the communications directed to them. By amplifying a single carrier frequency in each satellite repeater, TDMA ensures the most efficient use of the satellite’s on-board power supply.
A technique called frequency reuse allows satellites to communicate with a number of ground stations using the same frequency by transmitting in narrow beams pointed towards each of the stations. Beam widths can be adjusted to cover areas as large as the entire United States or as small as Belgium. Two stations far enough apart can receive different messages transmitted on the same frequency. Satellite antennas have been designed to transmit several beams in different directions, using the same reflector.
A new method for interconnecting many ground stations spread over great distances was tested in 1993 with the launch of NASA’s ACTS (Advanced Communications Technology Satellite). Known as the hopping spot beam technique, it combines the advantages of frequency reuse, spot beams, and TDMA. By concentrating the energy of the satellite’s transmitted signal, ACTS can use ground stations that have smaller antennas and reduced power requirements.
The concept of multiple spot beam communications was successfully demonstrated in 1991 with the launch of Italsat, developed by the Italian Research Council. With six spot beams operating at 30 GHz (uplink) and 20 GHz (downlink), the satellite interconnects TDMA transmissions between ground stations in all the major economic centres of Italy. It does this by demodulating uplink signals, routing them between uplink and downlink beams, and combining and remodulating them for downlink transmission.
The European satellite communications network includes the European Communications Satellite (ECS) network of the European Space Agency (ESA). Each satellite can handle 12,600 telephone circuits and multiple fax transmissions. The Olympus multi-role satellite is the largest 3-axis stabilized communications satellite in Europe and was developed mainly by British aerospace companies.
The application of laser technology to satellite communications has been studied for over a decade for potential military use. Laser beams can be used to transmit signals between a satellite and Earth, but the rate of transmission is limited because of absorption and scattering by the atmosphere. Lasers operating in the blue-green wavelength, which penetrates water, have been used for communication between satellites and submarines.
Up to now, all communications satellites have operated in high orbit, so as to achieve the widest possible coverage. The next generation will operate in low Earth orbit (LEO); although these orbits are non-geostationary, by employing constellations of satellites, every point on the Earth will always have coverage from one of the satellites. A number of competing consortia have announced plans to offer global telephone service to mobile phones by means of base stations aboard satellites in low Earth orbit, offering the promise of a mobile phone that works anywhere in the world.
The Iridium consortium intends to start commercial service in 1998, with Globalstar following in 1999. Teledesic LLC is building a global, broadband “Internet-in-the-Sky” to be opened in the year 2002. Using a constellation of several hundred LEO satellites, Teledesic claims it will create the world’s first network to provide affordable, worldwide access to telecommunications services such as broadband Internet access, videoconferencing, high-quality voice and other digital data needs.

The administrator of NASA is appointed from civilian life by the president, with the advice and consent of the US Senate. The administration arranges for participation by the scientific community in planning scientific measurements and observations to be made by means of aeronautical and space vehicles, and provides for dissemination of information concerning results. With the advent of the space shuttle programme, NASA more frequently became involved in military activities despite the original intention that it should be a civilian agency. Because of the long delay caused by the 1986 Challenger disaster, however, the US military started expanding its own fleet of booster rockets.

After of what I had gone through since a long time back, I came out with these results & conclusions:
Satellites were playing a Satan work since a long time back in the Arabian Gulf countries, Jordan, Israel, Palestinian Authorities, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, India, China, Japan, Europe countries & United States of America. The US military is funding development of a weapon that delivers a bout of excruciating pain from up to 2 kilometres away. Intended for use against rioters, it is meant to leave victims unharmed. But pain researchers are furious that work aimed at controlling pain has been used to develop a weapon. And they fear that the technology will be used for torture.
"I am deeply concerned about the ethical aspects of this research," says Andrew Rice, a consultant in pain medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, UK. "Even if the use of temporary severe pain can be justified as a restraining measure, which I do not believe it can, the long-term physical and psychological effects are unknown."
The research came to light in documents unearthed by the Sunshine Project, an organisation based in Texas and in Hamburg, Germany, that exposes biological weapons research. The papers were released under the US's Freedom of Information Act.
One document, a research contract between the Office of Naval Research and the University of Florida in Gainesville, US, is entitled "Sensory consequences of electromagnetic pulses emitted by laser induced plasmas".
It concerns so-called Pulsed Energy Projectiles (PEPs), which fire a laser pulse that generates a burst of expanding plasma when it hits something solid, like a person (New Scientist print edition, 12 October 2002). The weapon, destined for use in 2007, could literally knock rioters off their feet.
Pain trigger
According to a 2003 review of non-lethal weapons by the US Naval Studies Board, which advises the navy and marine corps, PEPs produced "pain and temporary paralysis" in tests on animals. This appears to be the result of an electromagnetic pulse produced by the expanding plasma which triggers impulses in nerve cells.
The new study, which runs until July and will be carried out with researchers at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, aims to optimise this effect. The idea is to work out how to generate a pulse which triggers pain neurons without damaging tissue.
The contract, heavily censored before release, asks researchers to look for "optimal pulse parameters to evoke peak nociceptor activation" - in other words, cause the maximum pain possible. Studies on cells grown in the lab will identify how much pain can be inflicted on someone before causing injury or death.
Long-term risk
New Scientist contacted two researchers working on the project. Martin Richardson, a laser expert at the University of Central Florida, US, refused to comment. Brian Cooper, an expert in dental pain at the University of Florida, distanced himself from the work, saying "I don't have anything interesting to convey. I was just providing some background for the group." His name appears on a public list of the university's research projects next to the $500,000-plus grant.
John Wood of University College London, UK, an expert in how the brain perceives pain, says the researchers involved in the project should face censure. "It could be used for torture," he says, "the [researchers] must be aware of this."
Amanda Williams, a clinical psychologist at University College London, fears that victims risk long-term harm. "Persistent pain can result from a range of supposedly non-destructive stimuli which nevertheless change the functioning of the nervous system," she says. She is concerned that studies of cultured cells will fall short of demonstrating a safe level for a plasma burst. "They cannot tell us about the pain and psychological consequences of such a painful experience."

There was all the below mentioned & still going on:

- People talk by repeating words heard by their ears or brains from many people inner brains thinking, but mainly focusing on my brain. Whispers are there most of times.
"Brain thoughts sharing" which causes SARS Virus "Fear Virus" & mentality ill then to entire body illness. To cause all to be Gods, but all to be Satanic & trappers. People are dieing.
- Strokes & Strikes from above caused by Satellites. Mobile phone tracers, locator & tracking used by Satellites. This also creates Fear Virus as if all the time no where to go nor to hide form above rays & waves. Even wile home alone.
- Lot of cheating by whispering in location range assuming anything for listeners to believe about me which causes soul punishment. "Electro- magnetic field" for surroundings to create lot of talks & whispers causing RAT RACE By Bob Marley Song" & Corruptions to all people behaviors or a Civil War.
- Satellites channel broadcasting been played with computer programs such as Crazy Talk "can be downloaded from internet" & sound matching mixing to fool the indoor TV watchers while Satellites above using Strokes & Strikes & Whispers on the same location of ours.
- Strokes & Strikes while sleeping plus Micro Oven Rays causes Sickness to entire body & SARS VIRUS. Getting old within no time & to be always intension.
